Infrared Saunas vs Conventional Saunas Traditional saunas are designed to have hot air, usually by burning a substance trapped inside its unit, to create an unusually warm atmosphere where the person would quickly begin to sweat. Their bodies then release much moisture which is thought to be “cleansing”. However, it now appears, they are actually releasing salt from their bodies rather than “toxins”. This is because, as the traditional wood burning and hot-rock stove steam saunas only heated the surface temperature, the sweat from the users’ bodies would normally be a reaction to keep itself cool. This means that toxins are not really being released.
Other Sauna Features These very modern saunas complete “true cleansing”. The Healthstart far-infrared heat penetrates your tissues and opens up your pores so, by the time you sweat metallic toxins as well as salt and sweat are released, in fact it seems 3 times more than a traditional sauna. Traditional saunas use hot air; whereas this heat warms your body directly providing you with a more relaxed and safe sauna experience. So, why suffer hotness and stuffiness just to sweat!? The soothing radiant heat from a Healthstart sauna does not dry out the air or make you feel nauseous. So, you can actually enjoy your sauna, not just do it because you think sweating is good for you. You will really feel the difference! What is Far Infrared and why is it different
to normal infrared? The Electromagnetic Spectrum (EM) is used to explain energy that is around us all the time, although we are only aware of a very small portion of them, for example visible light (or colours) and infrared energy (heat).
The EM Spectrum is measured in microns or micrometers (a micron = 1000nm). Infrared (IR) is often subdivided into near IR (NIR) 0.076 to 1.5 microns, mid IR (MIR) 1.5 to 5.6 microns and far IR (FIR) 5.6 to 1000 microns. Infrared light is part of the suns invisible spectrum; the heat we feel is completely healthy, safe and essential for all living things. Infrared means ‘below the red’ i.e. lower in frequency, it’s the suns natural and safe energy that cannot be seen and is perceived as heat. Their waves are longer than light but shorter than radio waves; lying outside the visible spectrum at its red end. All humans send and receive the FIR waves. The range of far-infrared waves generated by our bodies is 6 – 20 microns. The optimal micron output range is between 7 – 14 microns which is very close to the resonant frequency of a water molecule. This range, sometimes called “Vital Rays” appears to have special regenerative effects on our bodies. Far infrared energy is used in medicine where Doctors use infrared lamps and heaters to treat skin diseases and relieve the pain of sore muscles, and also used on newborn baby’s cribs in hospitals. In industry, infrared is extensively used for drying painted and enamelled surfaces, metals, textile, leather and paper goods. It is used widely throughout everyday life as well for appliances and health uses. The design of our Healthstart sauna allows for better performance well within the “Vital Range” of 7 to 14 microns with a good portion of wavelengths at 9.4. This is the frequency at which a water molecule resonates or vibrates. This vibration causes a release of cellular toxins such as mercury, aluminium, cholesterol and other toxic gases such as sulphur and formaldehyde. This optimal micron output also allows for deeper penetration of far-infrared heat through our saunas, which improves pain relief, detoxification, circulation, and increased peripheral blood flow. When FIR waves are applied through our saunas, the water molecules that encapsulate the toxins heat up and start to vibrate and this reduces the ion bonds of the atoms that are holding together the molecules of water. As the breakdown of the water molecules occurs, encapsulated gases and other toxic material are released and the body becomes rejuvenated and we see and feel the health benefits. FIR works because it can penetrate beyond the skin level up to 4 cms (1-1/2 inches) and because our body consists of more than 70% of water, so it works from heating inside to outside. This energizes and vibrates water molecules creating greater perspiration, whereas near-infrared is mainly absorbed at skin level and raises skin temperature. The source of infrared heat in the infrared sauna is a ceramic tube or cube, warmed by an electrical wire embedded within it. The tube is shielded by a metallic grill that is covered by a soft coating, and is safe to touch while it is operating. With Global warming and climate changes on the increase it is becoming clear why FIR technology is becoming crucial in our daily lives. This visible air pollution reflects sunlight back into space, preventing it reaching all living things Healthstart saunas and its affiliates do not provide medical advice, treatment or education.
